Pink Zebra Hair Colour in Osaka: A Hand-Painted Design
BY CHELSIE CHLARISSAThe transformation
From behind, the first thing you see is the pink: a soft, candy-floss shade worked through a short crop of loose, springy texture on top. Lower down, where the hair is cropped close at the back and nape, the pink carries on as the base, and over it runs a bold black zebra pattern. The sweeping stripes curve around the back of the head from ear to ear, a bit like brushstrokes or flames.

We hand-painted the whole pattern. There's no stencil and no template. Every stripe was placed freehand, straight onto the pink base, so the lines follow the real shape of this head. They taper where the head curves, thicken where there's room, and dip down toward the nape so the design looks like it belongs there rather than being stamped on. Hand-painting is what lets a pattern sit this naturally. On close-cropped hair especially, the shape of the skull is part of the canvas.
The colour pairing works because the two shades are so far apart. Black on pink gives the stripes a sharp, graphic edge, and the pink keeps the look playful rather than severe. Up top, the textured pink adds movement. At the back, the pattern does all the talking.
This is creative colour at its most personal, and it's a good example of ASSORT creativity. The name ASSORT comes from "assortment", and our founding idea is 十人十色: ten people, ten colours. A pink zebra pattern won't be on everyone's wish list. For the right person, nothing else would feel quite as much like them. Here in Kitahorie, where people dress to be noticed, a design like this fits right in.
Book your look
If you'd like a hand-painted pattern of your own, whether it's zebra stripes, another animal print or a shape you've sketched yourself, start with a consultation. Bring reference pictures and tell us how bold you want to go and where you want the design to sit. We'll talk through the base colour, the pattern and how it will suit your cut, and we'll give you a quote for your design before we start. On short, close-cropped hair, a painted pattern changes as your hair grows, so it's worth asking us how to keep yours looking sharp.
