Hime Cut and Face-Framing Bangs
BY DEVIN RILEY MULLIGANA quick way to switch up your look this season at Assort.
The transformation
A face-framing cut is one of the quickest ways we know to change your image completely. The look in these photos pairs a hime cut with full bangs. The name comes from the hairstyles of Japan's old court ladies: hime means princess. The bangs create a strong horizontal line across the forehead, and the side panels follow the cheekbones down to the jaw. Together they put the eyes and the shape of the face at the centre of the whole look.

In profile, the side panel ends in a sharp, deliberate step just below the cheek, then the longer hair takes over. Face on, the bangs and panels make a soft frame, and the length behind keeps the overall look calm and polished. On long, straight, dark hair like this, the contrast between the short pieces and the long ones is what makes it striking.
We do these cuts dry, and they take less than 30 minutes. Cutting dry means we can see exactly where each piece falls as it will look day to day, which matters when bangs and panels are measured in millimetres around your eyes and cheekbones. It also makes this a fast, effective way to get a fresh look: you can fit it into a lunch break in Aoyama and walk back out onto the street with a new face shape.
We don't push one house style on anyone. ASSORT comes from the word assortment, and our founding idea is 十人十色, ten people, ten colours. So we adjust where your bangs start and how far down the panels go to suit your features, your hair type and how much time you want to spend styling.
