Halloween Hair Colour Ideas in Tokyo That Last All Year
BY DEVIN RILEY MULLIGANPicture a fringe the colour of a freshly carved pumpkin, framed by a panel of buttery blonde and a deep brown base. It fits right in on Halloween night, and it would still look right on the walk down Aoyama Dori in February. That was the idea behind this edit: five colours with a little Halloween in them that are still worth keeping long after the costumes are put away.
Five Halloween colours that work beyond October
Good seasonal colour borrows a mood from the holiday without becoming a costume. Each look below starts from something spooky, like a pumpkin, a raccoon, a vampire's favourite drink, a ghost or a midnight sky, and turns it into a wearable colour design. Most of them come from the creative colour work we love at ASSORT: calico placement, peek-a-boo panels and rich vivid tones.

Pretty pumpkin calico. Calico colour puts separate blocks of shade side by side, like the patches on a calico cat. Here a bright pumpkin orange takes the fringe and front sections, a clean blonde stripe sits right behind it, and the natural dark brown runs underneath so all three tones show as the hair moves. With the heavy, face-framing fringe, it reads as a deliberate design rather than a one-night stunt.

Raccoon stripe and peek-a-boo blonde. A section near the parting has bands of light and dark running down it, like a raccoon's tail, while soft blonde shows through the lengths underneath. On a dark base with curtain bangs, the pattern looks graphic when you style it forward and almost disappears when you tuck it away. That makes it a good first step into creative colour.

A wine red Dracula would drink up. A deep, saturated burgundy across long, face-framing layers. It feels gothic in candlelight and polished in daylight, and it's the most low-key of the five for anyone who wants Halloween drama without vivid patches.

Spectral platinum with purple peek-a-boo. A ghostly, near-white platinum blonde over long shag-style layers, with violet panels hidden in the lower lengths. The purple shows around the collarbones and lights up when the hair moves. It's eerie in October and simply beautiful the rest of the year.

Spooky blueberry purple. A dark blueberry-violet on a short, choppy layered cut, with brighter purple showing at the fringe and the piecey ends. Indoors it can pass for near-black. In sunlight on a Tokyo street, the purple comes through.
Why now
Autumn is a good time for a colour change. After a humid summer, a fresh colour and a tidy cut reset the season, and the deep reds, purples and warm oranges suit the city as the ginkgo trees around Aoyama turn gold. Choose well and the same colour carries you through winter.
The process
Every look starts with a consultation. We look at your current colour, any colour history and your hair's condition, then decide where the colour should sit. With calico and peek-a-boo work, placement matters as much as shade: the sections we choose decide whether a colour shows all the time, only when you move, or only when you style it a certain way. For the lighter results, like the blonde stripes and the platinum, the hair is lightened first and then toned to the shade we want. Vivid shades such as orange and purple go on clean, carefully separated sections so the colours stay crisp instead of blurring together.
Lightening is the step that asks the most of your hair, so on the bleached and blonde work in this edit we protect the hair with the K18 bond-building treatment (@k18hair).
Vivid tones like pumpkin orange and blueberry purple soften as you wash them. That's part of their charm, and it's also why aftercare matters. Washing in cool water, using a colour-safe shampoo and using heat protection before styling all help the colour stay true for longer. We'll go through aftercare for your exact shade before you leave.
What to book
One deep all-over shade, like the wine red: book Single Process (Full Head), from JPY 9,900.
Patterns and vivid colour with lightening, like the pumpkin calico or raccoon stripe: book Double Process Creative, from JPY 30,800.
Very light blonde with colour panels, like the spectral platinum: book Triple Process Creative, from JPY 41,800.
Colour menus don't include shampoo and blow-dry, so add a cut or a Shampoo & Blow Dry (JPY 4,950). Hair past the shoulders adds a length fee, starting at JPY 1,100. Not sure which one fits? Make it yours
ASSORT comes from "assortment", and our founding idea is 十人十色, ten people, ten colours. None of these five is a fixed recipe. You could keep the pumpkin to the fringe only, swap the raccoon stripe for a softer caramel, or tuck the purple peek-a-boo where only you know it's there until you tie your hair up. Show us a look you love, tell us how bold you want to go and how much upkeep suits your life, and we'll design a version that works for you on Halloween and long after it.
